Dr. Bill East received his B. Sc. in Anatomy from the University of Saskatchewan,
followed by his Doctorate of Medicine, graduating with Distinction in 1977. A two year
residency in Family Medicine at the Plains Health Centre and the Regina General
Hospital completed his basic medical training.
From 1979-1985, Dr East enjoyed a successful Family Practice in Weyburn,
Saskatchewan. In 1985, he returned to the University of Saskatchewan where he
completed residency training in Anaesthesia. After successfully completing his specialty
exams, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1988.
Dr East spent 988-1993 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, as an Associate
Professor of Anaesthesia. His clinical expertise in anaesthesia was well recognized by
colleagues and graduate students, and earned him a Faculty appointment as an Assistant
Professor of Anaesthesia in 1993. Also in 1993, Dr East was invited to China where he
taught methods of cardiac anaesthesia at the First Teaching Hospital in Beijing.
In 1994, Dr. East joined the medical staff of the Kelowna General Hospital as a member
of the Department of Anaesthesia. He was elected Chief of Anaesthesia in 2000, and
served in this capacity until he chose to focus his practice on the challenges of outpatient
anaesthesia.
Dr East has been the primary Anaesthetist for the Okanagan Plastic Surgery Centre since
2002. His love of comprehensive anaesthesia care, his extensive knowledge and clinical
skills, and his devotion to excellence make Dr. East a welcome and very valuable
member of our medical staff at the Okanagan Plastic Surgery Centre.
Dr East is a member in good standing of the British Columbia Medical Society. the
Canadian Anesthesiology Society, the American Anesthesiology Society, the Society of
Ambulatory Anaesthesia as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and
Surgeon of Canada.
