Our Kelowna surgery centre was initially founded in 1996 as the Okanagan Plastic Surgery Centre Incorporated. It was established by Dr. Brian Peterson in order to provide a facility in which aesthetic cosmetic surgery would be performed in an environment of excellence outside the hospital setting. The intention was that the facility would exceed hospital standards in an atmosphere of privacy for the comprehensive care of the aesthetic plastic surgery patient.
In 1998, the scope of surgical services was expanded to include reconstructive hand, orthopedic and general procedures. The initial expansion was at the request of the Workers Compensation Board to provide access to services in a timely manner to injured workers.
In 2003, the facility name was changed to Okanagan Health Surgical Centre and expanded to 3 operating rooms to reflect the expanded scope of practice. Through contracts with the Interior Health Authority, Okanagan Health now provides day care surgical access for up to 2000 Medical Services Plan patients. This has helped to diminish the wait times for surgical access in the regional hospitals. This is in addition to more than 2000 patients treated on a private basis.
Okanagan Health added a peripheral limb MRI scanner to expedite the investigation and treatment of all patients.
Okanagan Health now has over 30 surgeons and anesthetists on staff representing 8 specialties. Nursing staff with specialty training in the operating rooms and recovery, as well as support staff continue to be dedicated to exemplary patient care. Patient satisfaction surveys on our Kelowna surgery clinic have repeatedly had excellent ratings.
Okanagan Health has state of the art operating room equipment, and has been described as “the nicest operating rooms in Canada”. We look forward to being able to provide you with our team of experts!
